Spring into Self-care

Self-care is the foundation to healing and is vital in healing. It one of the very first things that I discuss with all of my clients. With the weather shifting from winter to spring or even spring to summer for those of us living farther south… it has me rethinking, reassessing what self-care looks like as the seasons change.  During the colder, grayer, winter months, many of us retreat inward.  We stay inside, we watch more TV, we slow down more.  Sunnier, brighter months, bring more ability to spend time outside and in nature.  We might have more energy and more desire to get out and do more.

Here are some of my favorite self-care activities and some new ones for you to try!

Seven Spring Self-care Ideas

  1. Create AM and PM rituals - maybe there are some shifts to make with your current rituals, now that we have more daylight

  2. Practice yoga - maybe even practice outside! And remember, yoga isn’t all about being super flexible - it's about being present with yourself and noticing what your body needs.

  3. Create a mindful coffee or tea ritual to get your day started off

  4. Read outside

  5. Spend time with friends and family outside (are you seeing a theme here?)

  6. Witness sunrise or sunset

  7. Cook seasonal meals

As I hinted at above, many of my self-care rituals, activities revolve around being outside - this makes me feel great, but there is a scientific reason for that mood boost.  I’ll share more on that in my next post!
